Andrew Reeves | Senior Architect and Founder | Linebox

Andrew Reeves was born in Windsor, Ontario and studied architecture at Carleton
University. He founded Linebox Studio in Toronto in 2007. In its early years, Linebox focused its work on designing primarily urban infills and single family homes. In 2010 Andrew and his family moved to Ottawa as Linebox continued to grow and its project portfolio expanded beyond residential design to include commercial, hospitality and retail work.

To date, Linebox has designed over one million sqft of office space in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Waterloo and the Studio has become known as the leaders in progressive design of not only office space but also of commercial and residential work as well. Linebox Studio has been recognized for its work in various national publications and won awards for the design of its homes, restaurants and office spaces.

In terms of his approach to design, Andrew believes in collaboration and discovery. He has worked to create a studio environment that fosters creativity, curiosity and ideation. Linebox’s architects and designers come together with clients, craftspeople, artisans and suppliers to collaborate on a shared vision and explore ideas to bring projects through to fruition. With all its projects, Linebox strives to deliver progressive designs that are also simple and sustainable.

The Linebox team is headquartered in Ottawa and has satellite locations in Toronto and Montreal and Andrew is a licensed Architect with the OAA.

In his spare time outside the office Andrew is active and also likes spends time with his two girls playing hockey or golf. He is also working on building-up his own workshop at home to make his own works out of wood.

Joanne Varvaro | Senior Director, Global Strategy and Planning, Corporate Real Estate | Royal Bank of Canada

As Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)’s Senior Director, Global Strategy & Planning, Corporate Real Estate (CRE), Joanne Varvaro is responsible for delivering innovative real estate solutions for RBC’s core business that serves 16 million clients in 36 countries through its ~86,000 employees. Joanne oversees CRE’s Strategic Centres of Excellence (CoE) delivering leadership, expertise, best practice and research enabling a consistent and strategic approach to real estate planning for RBC’s global portfolio of ~24 million square feet with an annual occupancy spend of ~$1.7 billion CAD. The centers of excellence Joanne oversees are: Portfolio Planning, Occupancy Planning, Workplace Strategy, Design and Change Enablement.

Joanne joined RBC’s Corporate Real Estate team in 2014 and has held several roles in Relationship Management and Portfolio Strategy. Currently, Joanne is partnering with HR and Technology to enable RBC’s Flexible Work Program, in addition to managing RBC’s real estate market planning and efficiency programs globally.

Joanne has more than 20 years of real estate experience and prior to her current role at RBC, Joanne held various roles in real estate and business strategy at another FI and in the technology sector. Joanne holds a BA from the University of Toronto and is working towards her Masters of Corporate Real Estate (MCR) designation from CoreNet Global.

Joanne is an active member of RBCs Employee Giving Campaign and sponsors the global CRE Employee Recognition Program.

Susan Black | President and Chief Executive Officer | Conference Board of Canada

Susan Black is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada’s leading independent applied research organization. Since 2018, she has led a successful transformation at The Conference Board of Canada and has focused its efforts on providing rigorous research insights to Canadians across nine focus areas.

Susan has over 30 years' experience across sectors and industries. As President of Catalyst Canada, CHRO at Intact Financial and SVP, People at Holt Renfrew, Susan has dedicated her career to advocating inclusive environments, stronger employee engagement, and opportunities for women in the workplace.
